It is in the nature of life to throw up challenges and it is only human to need a little help from time to time.

Human Givens counselling offers a wide range of practical skills and an understanding of the natural mental and emotional processes which you can use help you create a more fulfilling future for yourself.

You may know exactly what you would like from counselling or you may wish to start with an exploration of what isn’t working for you at the moment.

It would be my pleasure to help you identify and achieve your goals, whether, perhaps you would like to:

  • replace distressing or unhelpful thoughts and behaviour patterns with positive ones, including anxiety, anger and depression

  • learn how to balance your emotions so they inform your decisions and enrich your life, without running it

  • explore couples counselling so you can decide whether you wish to revitalise your relationship or bring it to a close

  • let go of painful feelings, phobias or traumatic memories

  • develop confidence in yourself and take more control of your life

  • learn skills to help you resolve relationship difficulties at home or at work, including conflict management

If you choose to work with me, it will be my aim to make sure that you leave each of our sessions with greater confidence and wellbeing. Working together, I will use my skills and training to help you understand your situation and responses with more clarity. The Human Givens approach offers a framework to enable you to discover steps you can take, learn useful new skills and look at things from fresh perspectives that can help you bring about positive change.

Talking about things that matter deeply to you is simply not going to happen unless you feel your counsellor understands where you are coming from and respects your freedom to focus on what is right for your own wellbeing in a way that makes sense to you.

Human Givens is a brief, practical, solution-focussed form of counselling that works closely with the way the brain is designed to promote psychological health and wellbeing through meeting our essential emotional needs. In my experience, many people experience positive change sur quickly, because HG uses strategies that engage both rational and emotional intelligence to help let go of outdated and unhelpful patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour. It consolidates new learning through helping people understand the way their minds can be supported to help them feel better and take on helpful new behaviour by using guided imagery in deeply relaxed states. This strategy maximises the likelihood of lasting change, taking place, often in very few sessions.

For some people exploring the impact of past events feels important while others prefer to focus on moving forward, looking at how to get from where they are now to where they would prefer to be. Human Givens therapy allows space for either approach.
